Scoring Pattern
The PTE test is scored against the Global Scale of English, giving you an accurate snapshot of the performance of the test-taker on a scale of 10 - 90. Detailed score reports show the overall test-taker performance as well as their ability on sub-skills and enabling skills. Join a coaching centre and work hard to attain good PTE scores.
Item scoring
All items in PTE Academic are machine-scored. Scores for some item types are based on correctness alone, while others are based on correctness, formal aspects and the quality of the response.
Formal aspects refer to the form of the response: for example, whether it is over or under the word limit for a particular item type. The quality of the response is represented in the enabling skills. For example, in the item type Re-tell lecture, the response is scored on skills such as oral fluency and pronunciation.
Scores for item types assessing speaking and writing skills are generated by automated scoring systems. There are two types of scoring: Correct or Incorrect.
Some item types are scored as either correct or incorrect. If a response is correct, a score of 1 is given, but if it is incorrect, no score points are awarde
Partial credit
Other item types are scored as correct, partially correct or incorrect. If responses to these items are correct, the maximum score points available for each item type will be received, but if they are partly correct, some score points will be given, but less than the maximum available for the item type. If responses are incorrect, no score points will be received.
The tables that follow give an overview of how the 20 item types in the three parts of PTE Academic are scored. They also show timings, the number of items in any given test, the communicative skills, enabling skills and other elements scored.
Note- The minimum and maximum time indicated for the sections of each part of the test do not add up to the total time stated. This is because different versions of the test are balanced for total length. No candidate will get the maximum or minimum times indicated.
The PTE Academic reports an overall score.
Overall score
The overall score is based on the student's performance on all test items. For each item, the score you obtain contributes to the overall score. The overall score range is 10-90 points. Good preparation will definitely result in good PTE scores.

IELTS
IELTS has two versions - Academic and General Training. The Academic test is for those who want to study at a tertiary level in an English-speaking country. The General Training test is for those who want to do work experience or training programs, secondary school or migrate to an English-speaking country. All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking tests but different Reading and Writing tests.
How do I know which should I take?
Read the explanation of the Academic and General Training tests and contact the organization or institution to which you are applying to find out what it requires. Note that you must know which version to take when you complete the IELTS Application Form.
How long is the test?
The Reading and Writing sections are for 60 minutes each, the listening is for 30 minutes, speaking is for 11-14minutes, which means that total duration is 2hrs 45 minutes. The Listening, Reading and Writing tests are done in one sitting. The Speaking test may be on the same day or up to seven days before or after the other tests.
When will I receive my test results?
Your Test Report Form will be posted to you 13 calendar days after your test date. All test centers will post your Test Report Form to you. Keep your Test Report Form in a secure place as you only receive one copy. Some test centers provide SMS alerts and an online results service.
How long are IELTS scores valid?
IELTS scores are valid for 2 years.
The TOEFL Course is of 40 hours duration. Classes are held thrice a week. There is both weekday and weekend batches available. The course covers all aspects and sections of the exams. New batch is started every fortnight.

GRE (Graduate Record Examination)
- The GRE is now only available as a Computer Based Test (Paper based test is in limited scope). The Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections are section-level adaptive, meaning that the first section of the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning measures span a range of difficulty levels, from easy to difficult. The first section is assembled such that, overall, the first section is of average difficulty. The second section of each of the measures is administered based on a test taker's overall performance on the first section. The Tough questions have more credit than easier ones.
- You can still earn a very high score even if you answer several questions incorrectly. Correct answers to harder questions lead to higher score as compared to easier questions. To get good score more difficult questions has to be answered.
- Some universities may demand subject GRE.
- After completing your exam (even before with ScoreSelect), you can send your scores (free!) to four universities so be prepared.
- Your GRE scores are valid for 5 years.
- You can take the GRE revised General Test (computer-based) only once every 21 days, and no more than five times within any continuous rolling 12-month period. This applies even if you canceled your scores on a test taken previously. If you take only the paper-based GRE revised General Test, you may take it as often as it is offered.
GRE Test Structure
Total Computer Based Test (CBT) time is up to three hours 45 minutes, not including the research section. The directions at the beginning of each section specify the total number of questions in the section and the time allowed for the section. There are six sections with a 10-minute break following the third section. The Verbal and Quantitative sections may appear in any order, including an unidentified unscored section. Treat each section presented during your test as if it counts.

Educational Testing Service (ETS) announced that the GRE General Test, the world's most widely accepted graduate admissions test, is now accepted by more than 500 business schools worldwide (including top schools like Harvard, MIT, Wharton, INSEAD for their MBA programs. In the last four years, the number of business schools accepting the GRE General Test for MBA admissions has quadrupled.

Some Facts
- Maximum score for sections Verbal, Quantitative is 170. Analytical writing score will be reported on a 0-6 score scale, in half-point increments.
- GRE is generally required by universities in North America (USA and Canada).
- Most Universities require General GRE for admission to MS and Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences. Many Business schools now accept GRE scores for admission to MBA program.
- Generally for engineering Students score like 160 (q)+ 148 (v) + 4 (a) is considered OK for admission for middle order universities ranked between 40 to 90. There might be some deviation.
- For all engineering Students GRE Q is most important for best results GRE Q must be well above 160 ,GRE A>4.0/6.0), GRE V above 150.
- A high GRE score can considerably improve your chances of admission. TOEFL score must be well above 92. GPA is another major factor in admission.
- Top 50 ranked Universities may require GRE>318(162+,156+,>4/6) and TOEFL>95. For International students Verbal section is quite difficult. So they must prepare hard on vocabulary.
- There is no penalty for wrong answers.
- You can review, move forward and edit/change your answers etc (within a section).
- Note : Work hard in GRE Quantitative. Work on Permutation/combination, probability, mean/median/mode... etc.

Timeline of Changes for Test Takers
The new SAT will have no bearing on students scheduled to graduate in 2015 or 2016. However, for students planning to graduate in 2017 or any year after, the new SAT exam will be the exam they have to take (assuming they would prefer to take the exam no sooner than spring of 2016).
